FIREFIGHTERS and police responded to a blaze that broke out in Nuneaton.

Nuneaton and Bedworth Police confirmed they received multiple calls about a fire at the Judkins Quarry that has caused large black plumes of smoke to fill Nuneaton’s skyline.
As of 4.19pm, fire crews from Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service (WFRS) confirmed they were in attendance with three fire appliances and a water bowser to deal with the “large fire”, which involves wood chips and pallets.
At the time, they said: “Warwickshire Fire and Rescue currently have 3 fire appliances and a water bowser in attendance at a large fire involving wood chips and pallets which is creating a large amount of smoke near to the recycling centre.”
They added: “For residents living in the vicinity and surrounding areas of Judkins Recycling Centre in Nuneaton, please keep doors and windows closed as there is a large plume of smoke which is being dealt with by Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service.”
A spokesperson for Nuneaton and Bedworth Police confirmed they are also at the location “supporting” the firefighters.
In a Facebook post at 4.35pm, they said: “We’re currently supporting Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service after receiving multiple calls about a fire at Judkins Quarry. Firefighters are tackling the blaze and although there’s currently no danger to the public, the fire is causing quite a lot of black smoke so we’d advise those in the vicinity to keep their windows and doors closed. Thank you.”
No new updates on the fire have been issued by either force at the time of publication.
