A HOTEL in Earl Shilton could soon be transformed into a new residential care home.

New planning permission seeking a change of use for the OYO Shilton Inn, on Wood Street, has been filed with the council’s planning department last Saturday (29 July).
Documents seen by the Free Press show that if the plans are approved, it would undergo internal and external changes, and see one new building erected on-site.
The care home would also help to create 25 new jobs to benefit the area, with 20 full time jobs, and five part time jobs. At present, the hotel only has five members of staff.
According to the design and access statement penned by architect Paul Humphries, its users would park up on a nearby public car park, with one parking space per four residents, six parking spaces for staff members, and two disabled parking spaces.
The same statement reveals that in 2008 an attempt was made to try and turn the building into a care home back then, but the plans never came to light at the time.
An internal target date has been set for Monday, 11 September, meaning that the borough council’s planners have five weeks to make a decision on the application.
