The bladed weapon was found by a member of the public in close proximity to The Pingles leisure centre, which is located near Riversley Park and Attleborough.

Nuneaton and Bedworth Police officers shared a photo of the weapon, pictured above, to their official social media channels at 1pm.

Some Facebook followers questioned if they could retrieve fingerprints off the blade, to trace the individual who abandoned it. But in a response, a force spokesperson said it “had been out in the elements for too long – eliminating forensic capability.”

They further urged anybody who comes across ‘items of this nature’ to call the force’s non-emergency number of 101, or report it through a portal on their website.
