Officers received a 999 call from a concerned caller just before 2.14pm regarding the welfare of a female at the three-storey-high Harefield Road pay and display car park.

As a result, Warwickshire Police shut the A444 from the Dandelion Fountain and the former Crown Inn pub, and issued a statement urging drivers to avoid the area.

They said: “The A444 is shut in Nuneaton between the Dandelion Fountain and The Crown Inn pub due to an ongoing police incident. Please avoid the area if you can.”

Stagecoach temporarily halted their bus services, Tweeting: “Due to a police incident, all services will be terminating and departing at their stops before the bus station.”

At the time of the closure, one driver, who was stuck in the traffic for around 2 hours and 50 minutes, took to Facebook to describe the amount of congestion as “severe”.

Thankfully, specialist officers descended on down to the scene to help the female. They managed to resolve the incident, and she is now safe once again.

The roads re-opened at 5.08pm. Police Tweeted: “The A444 in Nuneaton town centre has now re-opened following a police incident. Police were responding to a concern for welfare, and this has all been safely resolved. Thank you for your patience.”
