BETTING FIRM Paddy Power look to have finally started work on coming to Nuneaton.
As we reported earlier last year, the gambling giant registered interest to set up shop on Abbey Street, after filing planning permission and seeking out a gambling licence.
Months after that, the chain sat tight-lipped about their future in the town when approached by the Hinckley Free Press, and not issuing any public comment.
This seen many Free Press readers raise concerns to us directly on if they would ever actually move in.
But today (Thursday, 25 May), contractors were finally spotted inside of the former Bodycare unit – with signs showing that works have officially commenced.
One of the signs read: “Danger: Building site”, informing passers-by to keep out, and that there is no unauthorised access. And, any permitted visitors heading inside the space, which is currently under construction, must report to the main site office.
It is unknown when the works will finally conclude, but it is known that planners have internally given the ‘thumbs up’ for the former beauty shop to become a betting shop.
Nearby to the new Paddy Power will be the new Post Office, housed inside the former Supernews, which will see it back in use once again, since closing its doors in 2021.
