The warning, posted on Facebook yesterday (24 March), states that concerned residents on Hereford Way and Banky Meadow have had people knocking at their door claiming to work for the council.

These fraudsters asked tenants if they have had any recent repair works completed, as they claimed that they are setting up disrepair claims. One even posed as a solicitor acting on the council’s behalf.

But now, a council spokesperson has set the record straight, stressing that these cold-callers are not real council employees, and they are instead purporting to be from the council. as well as issuing advice on how to identify if somebody is working for the council or not.

They said: “None of these people are council workers. If you are worried or concerned, or want to check if someone is who they say they are, please contact the council’s Housing Repairs team for advice. Call 01455 238141 and press option 1 to speak to the Housing Repairs Section.”
