The main pedestrian gate area which is accessible from the town centre’s Castle Street car park will be closed nearly all day to accommodate tree works taking place at the moat inside the Mead.

As well as this, the pedestrian bridge from the war memorial across the moat will also be closed whilst the works are taking place.

Advanced warning of the gate closure was given by a borough council spokesperson on social media this afternoon (Friday, 3 February).

Luckily for drivers, they will still be able to park up inside the car park as normal.

And, it has been advised that park-goers enter into the park from the jitty off Hill Street. They will also be able to enter into the park from the St. Mary’s Road entrance, which is unaffected by the works.

The borough council spokesperson made it known that the main works will commence next week.

They said: “The main works to start de-silting the pond and putting in new bank stabilisation should be starting next week. Thank you for your co-operation.”
