National betting shop chain, Betfred, have closed the doors to their Newdegate Street branch, near Abbey Street, in Nuneaton town centre.

The closure was made known through a notice which was signposted in the front windows days before it closed for good, however, they still remain up informing passers-by that it has closed for good.

It simply reads: “We’re closing – 15th January 2023. Visit your nearest store at 21 Queens Road, Nuneaton, CV11 5JT.”

However, they have not left the town for good. They have a remaining branch in the town centre just a three minute walk away, which can be found at 21 Queens Road.

The now-vacant property has not yet been listed on any property websites at the time of publication (Friday, 20 January) – and the future of the space is currently unknown.

Whilst one bookies has been lost, the town will gain another, as Paddy Power have been given the ‘thumbs up’ to take over the former Bodycare shop on Abbey Street.

Paddy Power first registered their interest in Nuneaton back in July last year, after planning permission notices were posted outside of the former beauty shop.

They listed job vacancies last week for a Shop Manager and Retail Betting Assistant, but both of these have expired since then, meaning the roles have likely been filled.
