As we first reported earlier this month, convenience shop chain One Stop lodged plans to install a storefront fascia, window vinyls, and poster cases at the site of the former J&C Motorcycles shop on High Street.

Around the same time, they displayed a premises licence in the front window, seeking out permission from the borough council to sell alcohol inside to customers.

As well as our Free Press report, villagers were also notified of the proposed plans as they were signposted on a nearby lamppost.

But, in the past few days, One Stop have officially made it known that they are coming back to Barwell – after leaving the village eleven months ago in January.

They have placed a temporary banner at their new location, simply reading: “One Stop coming soon!”, whilst interior renovation works are being carried out inside.

At the time of publication (Saturday, 31 December), no opening date – or time frames – have yet been revealed.

Commenting on the newly-planned shop, many residents supported it.

Steven Hawkes said: “Be nice to have a shop at this end of the village again.”

Sharon Hill said: “This is ideal for us”, with another adding: “This is excellent!”.

Jo Cleobury added: “It will be very beneficial to the people that live nearby.”
