NUNEATON SHOPPERS and town-goers have been reminded that a walkway in the town centre remains as a ‘no-go’ area due to ongoing construction works.

The New Century Way walkway, which starts at the Abbey Street end of town and is regularly used to get through to Queens Road, is currently out of bounds.

Fences have been erected from the Queens Road side fully blocking off access into the site, which have the Bam Contractors logo on them, showing they are carrying out the works.

According to a Tweet issued Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council today ( 28 July), this is a direct result of the construction works on the former Abbey Street car park, which is seeing a new ‘Hampton’ by Hilton hotel created on the land.

An apology was issued to regular users.

It reads: “We would like to remind everyone that the walkway at New Century Way in Nuneaton is closed to pedestrians due to construction working starting on the Hampton by Hilton hotel, part of the Transforming Nuneaton project.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”

The Abbey Street car park closed for the final time this Monday (25 July).

The new Hilton hotel which will be erected in its place will sport a total of 145 beds in total.

The two most notable alternative town car parks that still remain in use are the multi-storey Harefield Road car park, and Ropewalk shopping centre car park.
