Dr. Luke was pleased to hear from Johnsons owner, Gayner Johnson, that business for the lingerie and womenswear store is now back to ‘pre-lockdown’ levels of custom, after being challenged with a tough two years as a result of the coronavirus.

Johnsons have been dressing members of the community for two generations, since opening back in 1947, shortly after World War II.

Following the eased coronavirus restrictions, Gayner started reaching out to new customers through placements on Hinckley’s own radio station, Fosse 107. She has credited this and ‘glowing’ testimonials for the store’s continued good custom.

Dr. Luke Evans MP, said: “It is testament to Gayner’s ability to make all customers feel at ease that the business is able to celebrate 75 years of custom in our area, overcoming tough challenges such as the three-days weeks of 1973 and 1974, power cuts in the 1960s, and most recently lockdowns imposed to stop the spread of Covid-19.

“I hadn’t been at Johnsons long before two customers came in for a browse, saying they had come from afar, following a fitting at a similar business in Leamington Spa.

“Gayner, ever the consummate professional, didn’t miss a beat before making sure they felt welcome and attended to. I look forward to congratulating the business on more success in the future.”

Gayner Johnson, said: “I am so proud the family business is still here and remains successful after 75 years.

“My parents would be proud too. It is thanks to our lovely customers, some of whom travel quite some distance and appreciate the service we give – especially the specialised bra fitting – who can be credited for the shop’s longevity.

“Hinckley has wonderful independent shops and cafes, and customers who travel from outside our area are very complimentary towards the town centre.

“Working together, businesses and residents alike have made Hinckley a town to be proud of.”
