AN EVER-POPULAR Kirkby Mallory-based biking event is to return on 6 June as part of the celebrations for National Bike Week.
Local families are being invited to attend and bring their bikes down to this year’s returning Mallory Mile event, which will be held at the Mallory Park Circuit in Kirby Mallory.
The free-to-attend event will run from 6pm to 8pm, meaning that there will be two hours in total for attendees to join in the fun.
No prior booking in advance is needed – all that is needed is a bike and a helmet.
It has been stressed by organisers that as this is a family cycling event, scooters and roller skates will not be allowed on to the track.
The team behind the cycling at the Mallory Circuit are working alongside Race Rapid and Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council (HBBC), to help residents experience cycling in a safe and traffic-free environment.
Making full use of the ‘unique’ facilities on offer at the Mallory track, the event marks the ‘perfect’ chance for families to brush up on their cycling skills, or community groups to get some sponsorship and see how many laps they can get ride for good causes.
In addition to this, Wheels For All will be in attendance with some adapted bikes for anyone to try.
And, Leicestershire Police and Leicestershire County Council’s Mini Bikers and Choose How You Move Teams are to further attend the event.
Coun. Keith Nichols, the Borough Council’s Executive Member for Culture, Leisure, Tourism and town centres, said: “I am delighted to see another popular event return this year.
“Many of us have a bike hiding at the back of the shed or garage and this is an ideal opportunity to dig it out and take a spin in a safe and secure environment.
“Cycling is a fantastic method of exercise and suitable for all ages. We look forward to seeing you.”
