He was arrested after a door supervisor team from local security firm, GS Eagle Security, were working at a venue based on Regent Street and they had spotted that he had the knife in his back pocket.

The boy then attempted to flee the scene as he headed towards a Turkish food eatery on the road, but Hinckley Police officers were notified ‘immediately’ by the security firm – and he was subsequently arrested.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police stated that the boy, who is unable to be named for legal reasons, appeared at Leicester Youth Court a day after (Monday, 25 April), after being charged with possession of a knife blade/sharp-pointed article in a public place.

The spokesperson further told the Free Press: “The boy has also been charged with two counts of causing criminal damage.”

GS Eagle Security posted a statement on social media sharing site Facebook about the knife being found – and confiscated – and thanked their team for the efforts.

They said: “A big well done to our Door Supervisor team who confiscated a knife at one of our contracts in Hinckley on Saturday night.

“We’re very proud of our professional team for looking out for suspicious suspects and discovering the knife on a suspect when searched by the team.

“Great effort for minimising crime and ensuring the safety of customers and staff”, it concluded.
