The fundraising hike, being held this Friday (18 March), is to be the first Comic Relief ‘Three Campus Challenge’, according to a statement issued to the Hinckley Free Press.

Staff will start their fundraising challenge at NWSLC’s Wigston Campus, where they will then trek on down to the Hinckley Campus, and finally finish by walking on down to the Nuneaton Campus.

Paul Sawyer, Learning Resources Facilitator at NWSLC, has stated that he had thought up the idea after he had put weight on during lockdown – and that a ‘large group’ of colleagues signed up to join him on the hike, after he had invited them to do so.

He explained: “We are looking forward to taking on this challenge and raising some funds for Comic Relief. I first had the idea to organise a walk like this for myself after putting on weight during lockdown.

“I hadn’t been able to put my idea into place until all the restrictions were lifted. My colleagues have been really supportive and enthusiastic, and so I have extended the challenge for them to join me.

“The idea captured the imagination of the college and a large group of colleagues have now signed up to join me.”

Marion Plant, OBE FCGI, Principal and Chief Executive of NWSLC, said: “I am delighted that the college community has stepped up to support Paul’s idea and give something back via Comic Relief especially at this difficult time when the charity is working to support the devastating impact of war in Ukraine.

“I wish everyone the best of the luck for the trek and look forward to welcoming them at their destination on Friday.”

A Just Giving page has been set up to collect donations with a target of £500.
