Last night (Monday, 7 March), Twycross Zoo shared a Tweet on Twitter, confirming that it will open to eager families on Saturday, 9 April, in four weeks and four days.

It simply reads: “Why didn’t you know?

“It’s confirmed – the Gruffalo Discovery Land opens on Saturday, 9 April, 2022.”

A link was attached, encouraging visitors to book tickets ‘to avoid disappointment’.

The attraction has been created in partnership with Magic Light Pictures to give families the chance to explore the ‘deep, dark wood’ in an immersive and engaging experience, where they are able to meet The Gruffalo, Mouse, Fox, Owl, and Snake.

Visitors will be able to see a Gruffalo animatronic, which is over two-metres tall, and even take selfies with The Gruffalo’s friends at multiple ‘selfie spots’ around the park.

Parkgoers can learn more details about the real-life counterparts of the animated animals from the animated award-winning book, such as snakes, owls, and butterflies.

Youngsters will be able to play in the Treetop House Play area and even wander around Butterfly Paradise.

And, after walking through the deep, dark woods, exploring for the day, families can sit on down at the Oh Crumbs! Cafe and treat themselves to some food and drink.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Twycross Zoo explained that the Discovery Land was thought up “to inspire more children than ever before about the importance of conservation and the natural world”.

Dr. Sharon Redrobe OBE, CEO of Twycross Zoo, first told What’s on Live: “Much-loved children’s books, such as The Gruffalo, can inspire the imaginations of young children and encourage them to learn more about the natural world around them.

“The Gruffalo Discovery Land is a real celebration of both children’s love for animals and nature and we’re so excited to bring these wonderful creatures to life here at Twycross Zoo.”

Dr. Redrobe, continued: “Our aim for this ground-breaking experience is to engage and inspire more young children than ever before about the importance of conservation and the natural world.”

She concluded: “Recent global reports have highlighted the need for urgent action and we’re committed to educating more young people than ever before about the part they can play in protecting our planet – each one of us can make a real difference.”
