FAMILIES visiting Atherstone-based Twycross Zoo this Spring will be able to encounter The Gruffalo, Mouse, Fox, Owl, and Snake in the deep, dark, wood, as it is will become home to a brand new Gruffalo attraction, titled ‘The Gruffalo Discovery Land’.
The attraction will span across four acres of land – and it will bring together the much-loved characters, inspired by the best-selling and award-winning children’s book “The Gruffalo” by Axel Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler.
It was revealed by Twycross Zoo bosses in a statement which was posted to their official website as well as their social media pages four days ago (3 February).
The experience has been developed by the zoo in partnership with Magic Light Pictures, in an aim to inspire ‘more children than ever before’ to learn about the importance of conservation, as well as the natural world.
It will feature real-life animals, animatronics, movie clips, and ‘much more’.
A Gruffalo animatronic, which is over two-metres tall, will a part of the attraction – and visitors can snap many selfies together at many of the ‘selfie spots’ in the park.
“Visitors will also be able to experience and learn about real-life owls, snakes, butterflies and more as they enjoy The Gruffalo Discovery Land”, a spokesperson for Twycross Zoo explained in a statement regarding the soon-to-open attraction.
Youngsters will be able to play in the Treetop House Play area, wander around Butterfly Paradise, and learn with Twycross’ own Gruffalo Discoverers team.
Families looking to stop by for some food and drink after their trip through the deep, dark, wood, with Mouse, can do so at the Oh Crumbs! Café.
Talking to What’s On Live, Dr Sharon Redrobe OBE, CEO of Twycross Zoo, said: “We hope to spark the imaginations of our youngest visitors about the wonders of nature in this most engaging and interactive way.
“Even small actions can, collectively, have a big impact on the future health of our planet – and every young person can play their part.
“The arrival of The Gruffalo Discovery Land moves us closer to achieving our 2030 Vision to become a European Centre of Excellence for conservation.
“This brand-new immersive experience will educate more young children than ever before and increase their understanding of the vital role that they will play to ensure our planet thrives in the future.”
