A LEICESTER-BASED wooden bed business are celebrating their 10 year anniversary of trading this month (January).

Get Laid Beds was founded in January 2012 by Jonny Haskins and Jean Lombard, who became friends as they were studying together at De Montfort University (DMU).

Co-founders Haskins and Lombard initially started designing and creating wooden beds from their own garage as students, for their own use.

Since then, they have enlisted a team of carpenters to work from their warehouse in the city, who help to made and distributed the beds across the UK – and some of their beds have even been sent out worldwide after being shipped internationally.

Ten years on from their launch as a business, the firm has gone on to making one bed a day to one of the fastest production lines of wooden beds in the UK.

They are producing ‘tens of thousands’ of beds a year, and now boast a 4.4 star rating on consumer review website, Trustpilot, where they have been described as ‘excellent’.

Throughout their 10 years of trading, Get Laid have had to overcome many hurdles on their journey, with the most significant being a fire back in 2019, which wiped out everything – except one PC hard drive.

As a result of the fire, the customer service staff had to work from co-founder Jean Lombard’s living room for a month until a new temporary location had been found.

Luckily, after the fire, the brand has returned to full capacity and more – and they have since employed over 100 employees, and sport a ‘better’ modern warehouse, based in Glen Parva, Leicester.

GLB are in now in their sixth premises in 10 years, showing how popular the brand and its product range is proving to be.

The brand were first based in their garage in the student house, before moving over to a bigger garage.

They then moved into their first proper commercial unit, and later moved into their Winchester Avenue-based space which was sadly burnt.

Following the fire, they temporarily worked from their temporary factory – but now, they have finally settled on their current residence in Glen Parva.

Co-founder of Get Laid Beds, Jonny Haskins, said: “We are so proud to be where we are today.

“When we look back at our journey leading up to our 10-year anniversary and considering the hurdles we’ve had to overcome, it makes us even more ambitious and more motivated to continue growing and seeing where we can take the company.”

He further added: “It’s our story as well as the beds we produce that makes us so unique.

“It would have been all too easy to start making lower quality beds, but the fact that we haven’t compromised what we set out to do all those years ago.

“I think really shines through, and is one of the reasons why we are experiencing the success we are right now.”
