SANTA CLAUS will start his first journey of the year in his annual sleigh trail tonight (Sunday, 5 December), with helpers from local charity Hinckley Round Table.
He will be paying a visit to Barwell, Earl Shilton, and Hinckley, to visit local youngsters across the borough in his ‘new look’ sleigh, where he will spread the festive cheer and help to fundraise for the Round Table.
The Round Table have given people the chance to track Santa, by launching their very own live tracker, so youngsters and families can see how close by he is.
It has been stressed that he is unable to get off the sleigh as it is a public tour, meaning that he cannot stop at individual houses.
Donations will be collected in buckets for those wishing to donate to the Round Table.
A spokesperson for the group, said: “We are a very small group of unpaid volunteers just trying to spread some Christmas Joy and raise much needed donations for local good causes.”
Santa Claus may have to speed up if he and his elves are slowing down.
A Round Table spokesperson, explained: “We may have to speed up if we get behind. We may have to miss a street if we run out of time and we may add some in if time is being kind to us.”
As the Round Table exclusively told the Free Press at the light switch-on, he will take to the streets on a newly-constructed sleigh, as the one used in previous years had not been replaced for a total of 35 years.
The new sleigh has been built up with ‘hundreds of hours’ of work by Hinckley-based automotive customisation shop, Dream-Ice, ready for Santa’s many sleigh trips which will take place across the borough over the course of the month.
Rudolph has been ‘spruced up’ by a Midlands-based graffiti and artwork company named Off Key Art.
His trip will start at 4pm and finish at 8pm tonight.
He will first pass through Barwell.
