NATIONAL SUPERMARKET chain, Morrisons, who already have a store in Hinckley on Normandy Way in the former Safeway store, have announced that they have launched plans for a new supermarket in the neighbouring town of Nuneaton.

A Morrisons spokesperson has told the Free Press that they are “delighted” to confirm that plans have been put forward for a supermarket in Nuneaton.
It would be located just off Midland Road on the site of a former goods yards and existing waste transfer station.
If approved, the waste transfer station, would be re-located to an alternative local site.
Documents obtained by the Hinckley Free Press show that if given the green light, over 250 new local jobs would be created.
The development further includes a new petrol filling station which will offer ‘affordable’ fuel and electric vehicle charging for local residents.

A wall would have to be built around the Jodrell Street side of the store to retain the residential gardens.
Click and collect points would be created for shoppers to pick up their shopping that they have ordered online, as well as a garden centre to the main store entrance.
The store will offer Morrisons’ full range of fresh food, including their popular ‘Market Street’ with a specialist butchers, bakers and fishmongers.
The development further includes a new petrol filling station which will offer ‘affordable’ fuel and electric vehicle charging for local residents.
Morrisons have further stated that they will ‘shortly’ be submitting a planning application to Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council (NBBC) for the principle, scale and design of the store.
Mark Taylor, Head of Property Acquisitions at Morrisons, said: “This development enables the regeneration of a prominent brownfield site and will deliver a brand new, purpose built Morrisons store in Nuneaton.
“Our investment will create valued local employment and increase choice for local residents.
“We recently won the Grocer Gold Grocer of the Year Award in recognition of our unique approach to fresh produce – soon residents in Nuneaton will be able to experience this for themselves.
“We want to hear your views so please visit the consultation website for more
information and to let us know what you think of the plans.”
But, before any decisions can be made, Morrisons have invited local residents to have their say on the plans through a new consultation website, linked here, with further details and a feedback form.
As a resident in the Tuttle Hill area I am extremely concerned about the traffic. There are already too many big lorries using that route into town and this will make it worse.
For me, coming from Hartshill, it would reduce traffic into town past this point (eg continuing to Asda / Sains).
I’m super excited about this news, Morrisons is my favourite grocers / supermarket.
