PLANNING DOCUMENTS have been submitted to transform a former plumbers showroom and yard into a new hair salon on Southfield Road in Hinckley.

The building, based on 2 Southfield Road, was last used by family-owned plumbing business, Dave Clarke and Sons Limited, who quietly closed their doors for good at the start of the new year on 1 January 2021.

Documents for the plans were first submitted to planners at Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council at the start of September (13 September), but they were only recently validated this month (11 October), and are currently awaiting a decision.

They were put forward to the Borough Council by local man Mr. Barry Holdback.

If approved, part of the building would be demolished, and refurbishment works would take place to re-fit the rest of the building into a hair salon, with a wholesale room, and a new side extension with a new first floor one bedroom apartment.

Space would be made on the exterior for associated car parking and landscaping.

The number of proposed car parking spaces would go up from the current number of four to eight, the two spaces for public carrier vehicles would be removed, one disabled parking space would be created, and so would four new cycle spaces.

The proposed trading hours and exact number of full-time employees set to be employed are unknown at the time of publication (23 October).

The Council did not raised any concerns over the plans, but did question what the trading hours were, if the flat would be used for the business, and how potential noise from the business ‘would be controlled’ as it could affect the occupant of the flat.

A decision is still yet to be made on whether the plans will be given the ‘thumbs up’ or ‘thumbs down’ by planners.
