John Christopher Hair, who were located on Abbey Street, in close proximity to the town’s former Co-op department store, quietly closed their doors in late September two weeks ago, on Saturday 25 September.

The news about the saddening blow to the town centre was made in a heartfelt message which was posted to their official Facebook page, thanking customers and staff for their support and describing the time in the town centre as being ‘amazing’.

It read: “So as of Saturday the 25th September after 36 years being open, John Christopher Hair will be closing the doors forever.

“I just want to take this opportunity to say thank you to all customers for your support throughout the years, it’s [sic] been amazing.

“Also want to thank the staff for all the amazing work they’ve put in and for all the support. I love you all so bloody much!”

As well as this, a handwritten notice was wrote on the main shop window, just days before the closure, reading: “Closing down Saturday”, ensuring that passers-by know that the former barbers is no more – and the notice has remained in the window two weeks’ later (9 October).

But, former customers should not worry as owner John is now a mobile hairdresser and appointments can still be booked by either calling or texting him on his mobile phone number on 07767 120446.
