BEDWORTH market stall holders are set to take part in a trial starting this Friday (1 October), where they will trade from All Saints Square in Bedworth town centre.

The trial is set to take place for a total of six months, from October 2021 until March 2022, following a Borough Council consultation on hosting market stalls.

The plan for the scheme was a ‘key’ manifesto commitment of the new leadership administration when the Conservative Party won control of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council (NBBC) back in May earlier this year.

Market stall holders from both Bedworth and Nuneaton were both offered the opportunity to take part in the trial and trade from the new town centre location.

So far, a total of 19 stall holders have been confirmed to be taking part in the trial – with a range of stalls on offer from clothing, footwear, vinyl records, and confectionery.

Whilst this trial is taking place, Bedworth’s main indoor market on Mill Street will continue to trade on its regular trading days as per usual.

Council Leader, Coun. Kristofer Wilson (Con, Whitestone), has stated that this is part of the plan to ‘regenerate’ Bedworth’s town centre.

Coun. Wilson, said: “This trial is forming part of the wider plans to regenerate Bedworth Town Centre and restore some of the economic vitality to the town.

“If we always do the same thing we won’t achieve the change that Bedworth needs.

“I hope that if this does prove to be a success, that it will encourage a higher footfall in the town centre and give a boost to all local businesses and traders.

“At the end of the trial the results and impact of the initiative will be assessed together with further consultation with key stakeholders. A decision will then be made as to future of the initiative.”
