A POPULAR Nuneaton town centre event is set to return on 12 September, following last year’s cancellation due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Nuneaton 10K Fun Run is back and will be delivered by Nuneaton Harrier Athletics Club and volunteers from other clubs, who are hopeful that the event will be ‘the best one yet’.
As well as this, a new run, named the 2K Junior Fun Run, has been added in for children aged 7 to 14, to try and ‘initiate an early love of running’ and to get more families and children involved.
The flat terrain of the 10K three-lap course has been described as an ‘ideal personal best course’ to introduce longer distances to newer runners.
The 10K three-lap course will start at Nuneaton Town Hall at 9.30am, with runners running through Coton Road, Avenue and Attleborough Road and eventually finish at the Pingles Athletic Stadium.
After the main course has taken place, the junior runners will set off on their run on a route from the slip road by the Nuneaton Museum and Art Gallery in Riversley Park.
Entry into the 10K Fun Run costs £15 for affiliated runners and £18 for those who are unaffiliated, with a bespoke medal included in the fee – but entries are an extra £2 on the day.
Children can be signed up to the 2K Junior Fun Run online for just £3, but if they show up the day and want to enter then it costs a total of £5.
Some roads will be closed as a result of the event taking place, but Nuneaton residents have been made aware of the disruptions between 8.30am to 11am on the morning of the race.
Eric Fowler, Chair of Nuneaton Harriers said: “As the West Midland athletics club of the year we have gained a reputation for organising really great events for athletes of all standards.
“We’re delighted that we’ve made the 10k better still this year by adding in the children’s fun run.”
