A BARWELL-BASED Liberal Democrat campaigner has been re-elected to the Executive of the party’s National Education Association.
Mathew Hulbert, who was previously the Children and Young People’s Champion for Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, has been re-appointed at the party’s recent Annual General Meeting (AGM).
The Lib Dem Education Association (LDEA) exists as a focal point for party members with an interest in education, as well as helping to formulate policy.
Members of the organisation hold regular meetings with Liberal Democrat MPs and Members of the House of Lords, who lead for the party in Parliament on education matters.
It hosts an annual conference and produce a twice-yearly booklet.
Former School Governor, Mr. Hulbert, explained that he is ‘delighted’ to have been re-elected.
He said: “I’m delighted to have been re-elected to the LDEA executive.
“Since first joining the group a number of years ago, my focus has been on highlighting the need for funding to be ploughed back into the youth service after a decade of savage cuts by successive governments.
“As part of a holistic education, youth work has a very important part to play; especially when it comes to engaging the hardest to reach young people in positive and productive out-of-school activities.
“Schools are being asked to do too much already and professional youth workers are perfectly placed to step in, meet young people where they are at, help address any issues they may be facing, and help them to make the most of their lives and talents.”
“I look forward, over the next year, to continuing to raise these issues at the LDEA executive and more widely in the party; so our MPs and Peers can put further pressure on Tory ministers to finally meet their general election pledge of ploughing hundreds of thousands of pounds back into the youth service.”
