Planning permission has been approved for the Council and development firm, Queensberry, to start building the hotel on Abbey Street in the late summer.

The approved plans further grant the rest of the Abbey Street developments to go ahead, which includes a cinema, car park, retail units, food hall, leisure, and town centre living accommodation.

The development site will be landscaped and see a public plaza created, which will be used to accommodate for events.

Funding for the project came from the Government’s ‘Getting Building Fund’ and Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership’s cash pot.

These funds follow Warwickshire County Council’s earlier investment, who handed the Council £1.5 million to support them in buying the Co-op building.

Development consultancy Turley carried out the planning and development works.

Further information about the Abbey Street development, which has been described as an ‘exciting new development’, can be found on the official project website, linked here.
