TWO HINCKLEY and Bosworth-based Councillors have joined the Administration Cabinet for Leicestershire County Council in the County Hall.

Cllr. Peter Bedford and Cllr. Ozzy O’Shea were promoted to the ‘top table’ of the Conservative Cabinet following an Annual Meeting held by the County Council three days’ ago (19 May).

Cllr. Bedford, of Markfield, Desford, and Thornton, has been tasked with taking on Leicestershire County Council’s newly-created portfolio about Covid-19, titled “Covid Recovery & Ways of Working”.

The portfolio helps the Council modernise how they operate and their online services, following the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Peter hopes to bring his past knowledge and experience from working in the private sector into reforming how the Council operates, in a way which will help deliver better services for residents.

He said: “It’s a real honour to have been asked to serve in Cabinet at County Hall. I have a breadth of experience working in some of the UKs largest companies.

“I very much hope to bring this private sector knowledge and experience to reforming how the County Council operates to deliver even better services for local residents.”

Cllr. O’Shea, of Groby and Ratby, will take on the Highways and Transport brief, where he will listen to residents’ concerns regarding speeding, potholes, and verge clearing.

The Tories formed an Administration at the County Council where they won the local election earlier this month on 6 May.

In the election, they gained six seats, taken four from the Liberal Democrats, and two from Labour, taking their total tally to 42 of 55 seats in the chamber.
