RENOVATION and refurbishment works are currently taking place on Barclays’ newest Nuneaton town centre bank, which will open its doors on Queens Road in early June.

The banking firm’s newest branch will be housed in the former Utopia Womenswear unit on Queens Road as they believed it was ‘the most suitable location’ for them to remain in town.

They made the decision to close the doors to their Grade II* listed Market Place location as the lease was running out on the premises.

They last traded from Market Place on Friday 9 April.

As Nuneaton are currently without an operating Barclays branch, there is one open and trading in the nearby in the town of Hinckley, based in The Borough.

A spokesperson for Barclays has confirmed to the Free Press that access to the new branch will only be the Queens Road entrance, and not through the Ropewalk Shopping Centre, unlike the Next store directly opposite.

It will open its doors to members of the public for the first time on Monday 7 June.

Amanda Allan, Market Director for Barclays, said: “We are planning to open our new branch on Monday 7 June 2021.

“Our lease was expiring on the premises in Market Place and we wanted to stay in Nuneaton and look for the most suitable location in the town centre.

“We are very excited about the new branch which will provide a great environment for our customers and staff.”
