The discounter, who used to trade as a pound shop, are set to move only yards away from their current site next to Sainsbury’s, in the neighbouring unit to American department store TK Maxx.

At the time of publication (20 March), they are continuing to trade from their current location, but they will move soon.

The chain was once housed in the unit in the past, but in 2018 when they acquired now-defunct discounter Guess How Much (GHM!) they moved into their location, leaving the unit empty.

According to The Hinckley Times in a report published in August 2019, they were still forking out £500k a month on the space, despite the unit remaining empty.

Poundland workers have been spotted in the unit next to TK Maxx unboxing products, stocking and building shelves, and sorting new interior aisle décor.

Shoppers have been informed of the change in advance. Two signs have been placed up in their shop windows.

The signage simply reads: “Hello neighbour! We’re moving next door! Your brand new store coming soon.”

A spokesperson for Poundland has revealed that their lease on the property was running out at that unit, but they are happy to be staying in The Crescent.

They said: “All our properties are leased and from time to time that means we have to change locations, but we’re happy to be staying in Hinckley serving our loyal customers.”

Poundland have not yet announced when they plan to open the doors to their new store.
