NUNEATON and Bedworth’s Borough Council Leader, Cllr. Julie Jackson, has welcomed confirmation of the £23.2 million funding cash boost which will go towards ‘transforming’ Nuneaton town centre.

Today (3 March), it was announced and confirmed in The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak’s Budget, that that Towns Fund now has approval from the Government.

The newly-announced town centre cash boost follows two more previous million pound sums of £13.4 million and £9.5 million, which were also supplied by the Government to the Council to revamp the town’s high street.

Councillor Jackson (LAB), who represents the Wem Brook ward believes that the funding being secured for the town centre’s transformation is ‘excellent’ and ‘wonderful’ news.

Member of Parliament for the Nuneaton constituency, Marcus Jones (CON), took to his official Twitter account this afternoon to announce that he is ‘delighted’ at the funding and that the next step is ‘to create a town centre which we can be proud of once again’.

“This is wonderful news for the borough and particularly for Nuneaton town centre, and is a testament to the excellent work that so many people across the Borough Council and the members of the Town Deal Board put in to develop and submit our bid during 2020.

“This news is well deserved. Thank you everyone for all that you have done.

“This is a very significant positive result, and is just a part of our ambitious plans for Nuneaton town centre.

“We are working hard to bring forward proposals for Bedworth town centre as well.

“We believe projects like these are going to have a significant effect on the borough as a whole.

“Now our hard work begins to put these exciting proposals into practice!”
