Construction company Kier Group plc were appointed to carry out the works by Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, which are set to be complete by early 2022.

The £5,000,000 construction contract consists of a ceremonial hall which would be able to be used for multi-faith services, a crematory hall that would hold the crematorium plant, equipment, and offices.

External works for the new site include memorial gardens, car parks, covered walkways, and new roads.

The site will be able to be accessed through a new access road formed from the A47.

Cllr. Stuart Bray, Leader of Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, said: “It is fantastic to see this milestone reached.

“Once complete, we will be able to offer a modern, fit-for-purpose crematorium facility that meets the growing needs of the population of Hinckley and Bosworth and surrounding areas.

“With the nearest available crematorium currently located in Nuneaton, the new crematorium will provide an alternative affordable cremation facility with reduced waiting times for services and reduced traveling times for Hinckley and Bosworth residents.

“The facility will complement the council’s cemetery services, create jobs, enhance the appearance of the site, and will fit well with the burial services provided by the Borough Council.”

Martin Williamson, Operations Manager at Kier Regional Building North & Scotland, said: “We are delighted to be working with Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council on this state-of-the-art facility.

“The project draws on our extensive experience of delivering projects within this sector.”
