Hinckley Councillor Michael Mullaney, who represents the De Montfort Ward, has joined as a member of the Liberal Democrat Disability Association to help campaign for the rights of those with disabilities and their families.

Councillor Mullaney has explained that he is ‘delighted’ to join the national group, which promotes disability issues within the party, and he believes that the more needs to be done by the Government to help those with disabilities.

In a statement issued to The Hinckley Free Press about joining the association, Councillor Mullaney, said: “Here in Hinckley and Bosworth there are thousands of people who have disabilities.

“Over my years as a Councillor, I have helped many local people with disabilities, and I have realised that there needs to be more support from Government for people with disabilities and their families.

“I’m delighted to join the national Executive of the Liberal Democrat Disability Association that campaigns for the rights of disabled people.

“There is rightly a huge emphasis on the importance of diversity, but I feel the cause of people with disabilities is often not given the attention it deserves, especially as it affects many thousands of people locally and millions nationally.”
