Bargain hunters are being sent to the only remaining Poundland store left in Nuneaton town centre, located in Market Place.

The discounters main branch on Queens Road had its last day of trading where it served savvy shoppers with a flash sale in an effort to clear the shop shelves before putting the shutters down for a final time on Saturday 31 October.

Yesterday evening (2 November), at around 4.15pm, contractors and workers were spotted on ladders and equipment inside of the space tidying the unit up ready for the next occupant and removing all signs of Poundland’s presence.

A newly-placed poster on the outside shop window now greets former shoppers of the discount store, which reads: “Sorry! We have closed.”, alongside a photo of the nearing Market Place location on a map, which is a three-minute walk away.

It has not yet been revealed what will take on the space that has been left empty, however, notable British household brands have housed the unit in the past, most notably Woolworths and TJ Hughes.

For those looking to do a spot of shopping outside of Nuneaton, Hinckley have a Poundland in The Crescent, which is a 20-minute drive away.

Speaking to The Hinckley Free Press, a spokesperson for Poundland, said: “While we’re sad to have closed our doors at Queens Road at the end of October, we’ll still be offering customers amazing value at nearby Market Place.

“Where we close a store, it goes without saying we always work hard to look after colleagues.”
