BURBAGE’s young junior footballers and club committee for the FC Burbage Juniors football team have raised a whopping grand total of £3,000 for the Hinckley Area Foodbank.
When the news had first broken in mid-March about a lockdown being issued by the Government, members at the junior football team were given the opportunity to freeze their payments towards the club until lockdown was over.
Alternatively, those who wished to continue their payments and subscriptions would see the funds raised during lockdown donated to the Hinckley Area Foodbank.
Thanks to the kind and generous committee and club members who continued making payments through the months of April and May collectively, this seen a massive grand total of £3,000 raised and ready to be donated to the Foodbank.
Club Chairman comments
Phil Stockton, Club Chairman at FC Burbage, said: “We agreed fairly early on when safety measures meant that football would come to a pause that we would advise our members to stop their subscriptions, however, should any members continue to pay we’d donate this to the Hinckley foodbank charity.
“There really was no pressure either way and we had no idea how much we would raise.
“£3,000 is a huge number but I’m not totally surprised given the supportive nature of the members of our football family.
“In 2018, we launched our club development plan, which at the time set out our vision of Enhancing Lives Through Football.
“We all get so much more out of being part of FC Burbage than just football. Helping out less fortunate members of the community was the right thing to do and in keeping with our core values.”
Thankful Foodbank respond
The Hinckley Area Foodbank are delighted by the donation from the club members and committee.
Julie Baker, Project Manager at the Hinckley Area Foodbank, said: “We at Hinckley Area Foodbank are delighted with such a generous donation that the members of FC Burbage Juniors have made to us.
“This £3000 will go towards buying food for local people, some of whom have been affected by the Covid 19 pandemic, leaving them in financial crisis.
“We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the residents of the Hinckley Borough, and want to thank everyone, and especially the families and friends of FC Burbage Juniors, for their continued support.
“We couldn’t do our work without it.”
