The Hinckley Library, located on Lancaster Road, has been temporarily closed since March, when the town went into lockdown over coronavirus pandemic fears.

As we mentioned in a report at the start of July last month, on Tuesday 7 July, the Library launched their very own ‘click and collect’ service.

The ‘click and collect’ service gives Hinckley Library members the opportunity to request a selection of up to 10 books to borrow for up to four weeks before having to return them.

Yesterday on Monday 3 August, Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council officially confirmed that the Library have reopened their doors to members with social distancing guidelines in place.

Members of the Library and Hinckley residents must book a time slot on the Leicestershire County Council website in advance if they plan on making any trips over to the Library.

To book a time slot at the library, residents need to confirm they want to visit Hinckley Library on the website, then select an available date and time slot and provide Leicestershire County Council with their name, telephone or mobile number, email address and library membership number.

You can click here to book a time slot at the Library and one person in the family can make a booking for up to three people.

Smart hours are currently unavailable.

Visit information

Members must bring their Library cards with them, sanitise their hands before entering the Library, and may only enter when staff let them in.

Leicestershire County Council recommend wearing face coverings inside the Library, but they will soon become mandatory in four days’ time, on Saturday 8 August.

Visitors must arrive five minutes before their booked time slot and must display their digital online confirmation email to show a member of staff.

Leicestershire County Council will use ‘track and trace’ by asking members for their names and telephone number as they are booking. These details may end up being shared with NHS, if someone does tests positive for COVID-19.

All details on the ‘track and trace’ system will be stored securely and destroyed after 21 days.

Members can come on down to the Library at any time within their time slot, but they must leave once their booked session is finished. They will get around 25 to 30 minutes to browse, borrow and return any items.

Hand sanitiser is available on the premises for members and must be used before entering the Library.

If members issue any items, like books and resources, they must all be issued through the self-service kiosks.
