Bosses at Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council were ‘delighted’ to announce that Hinckley Leisure Centre could reopen, following the recent announcement that indoor gyms and leisure centres can reopen.

The gym and gym facilities will reopen first at the Leisure Centre on Monday, 3 August, as well as the gym-based studio classes.

In the following week on Monday 10 August, the swimming pool will open with lane swimming.

Finally, on Monday 17 August, the sports hall and badminton courts inside the Leisure Centre will be open for use.

The Leisure Centre will reopen with safety measures in place to ensure that both visitors and staff members will be kept safe, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

A new series of safety measures have been rolled out at the venue to help ensure customers adhere to social distancing rules and regular handwashing.

These new safety measures include: One way systems, hand sanitising stations, and Perspex screens at the reception counter. Only card transactions will be accepted, and only pre-booked visits will be permitted.

Keith Nichols, Executive Member for Culture and Leisure at the Borough Council, said: “I’m delighted that Hinckley Leisure Centre will be reopening its doors in a phased return as we adapt to the ‘new normal.’

“It is recognised nationally the key role sport and physical activity will play in the recovery from this pandemic.

“In readiness for this we have been doing a lot of work behind the scenes with our partners at Places Leisure to plan for how this can be best achieved.

“It is a key priority for the council helping people in our communities to improve their physical and mental health.

“Our leisure centre is central to this aim and provides an excellent environment to help keep us physically and mentally healthy.”
