VOLUNTEERS are being recognised this week. From June 1st to June 7th is Volunteers’ week, an annual celebration to celebrate those across the United Kingdom who are volunteering.

To mark the occasion, a local Hinckley councillor has thanked residents for all of their hard work for volunteering locally in the town before and during the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

Hinckley’s Liberal Democrat Borough and County Councillor, Michael Mullaney, said: “There are so many people in Hinckley and the surrounding area who give up so much of their time voluntarily to help others.

“Volunteers are the heartbeat of our community ensuring that so much good work takes place locally. During this awful coronavirus outbreak one of the positives has been how many local people have helped out.

“To see so many people step forward to help vulnerable people with collecting prescriptions, doing shopping and other good work during this pandemic shows how many great, caring people we have locally in Hinckley.

“Volunteers’ week is a great way to say thank you to all the local people who do good all year round.”

About Volunteers Week

Volunteers Week was established in 1984 and it is supported by both large and small charities throughout the United Kingdom. The week showcases the diverse volunteering roles which are available.

This year, just like many who are focusing on volunteering this year, the event’s focus is on those who are helping out in any volunteering roles related to the current coronavirus pandemic.
