‘Hinckley could do with a little drag sparkle’: New Baron set for drag event on Sunday evening

The New Baron are set for a visit from Leicestershire-based drag queen Fanny Burns on Sunday, 24 January at 7:30pm.

Fanny Burns is set to make history as the first drag queen to do a show at The New Baron of Hinckley since they opened their doors in October 2019.

Fanny describes herself as an ‘unpolitically correct’ live vocal drag performer.

Locals of The New Baron can expect to see live vocals with songs from the 80’s to the modern day with some cheeky banter in between.

Attendees are being recommended to get there for about 6 o’clock to 7 o’clock pm onwards.

The entertainment will take place on the third floor in the conservatory area, so that regulars can still drink if they don’t want to watch the entertainment.

Naomi Pegg, General Manager of The New Baron of Hinckley, said: “I think it will be a fun and successful night.

I think it’s really good because of gender-neutrality being accepted in the modern day society now.”

Fanny commented on her friendship with The New Baron owner, Nirad Solanki. She said: “I’ve worked with Nirad at another of his venues in Leicester, we thought that Hinckley could do with a little drag sparkle.

Nirad is a supporter of local talent. Being a Leicester queen, it’s nice to be able to entertain a Midlands crowd.”

Fanny revealed that she pitched the concept of a bingo night with the drag act at The New Baron. She said: “I approached Nirad and sold him the Bingo concept. I have a few followers in Hinckley, and I felt that the New Baron would be a great venue for Drag Bingo.

It’s something different and fun on a Thursday. We’re going to start it on Thursday 6th February, and then the first Thursday of every month after.”

Nirad has stated that there is free entry into the event on Sunday, he said: “There are no admission fees whatsoever.

When we launch the bingo, there will just be £2 and £3 bingo tickets with monetary and alcoholic prizes.”
