Rumours are running wild that variety retailer Poundstretcher could be bringing new life back into the former Dunelm space located on Castle Street, next door to the B&M Bargains store.
This rumour is exciting for shoppers as the unit has sat empty since Dunelm left the town on 21 January 2018.
Since the loss of Dunelm, the most similar homeware shop for residents has been Britannia Centre’s Wilko store as it offers affordable homeware goods.
It is interesting that Poundstretcher want to move into Hinckley town centre as they already have a store next to Tesco and Pets at Home.
An employee of the current Poundstretcher store in Hinckley, which is located on Hawley Road, has stated that they believe if a second Poundstretcher store was to open in 2020, the Hawley Road store would still be up and running.
It is uncertain whether Poundstretcher will open under their name or their blue-branded sister store, Bargain Buys.
Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council have not received any planning changes for the space as it would still operate as a shop.
When Notizie asked Poundstretcher about the rumoured store, their press office said: “We have no confirmation as of present. It would not open this side of Christmas and we are not aware of that.”
However, whilst Poundstretcher remain secretive, this news does look to have some truth to it. This is because there is a plastic sheet covering what is going on inside of the unit and construction workers have been spotted above the shop and walking in and out of the doors.
The “To Let” sign on the space has been removed, so this is further proof something is going on even if it does not turn out to be either a Poundstretcher or Bargain Buys.
